Striking and elegant, Anemone coronaria ‘Duet’ produces beautiful bicolour flowers with crisp white petals delicately flushed and edged in rosy-pink around rich dark centres.

The silky poppy-like blooms are held on slender stems above finely divided fern-like foliage, creating a bright and eye-catching display throughout spring and early summer. The contrasting tones give the flowers a painterly appearance, making them especially effective in both cottage garden planting and cut flower arrangements.

Derived from Mediterranean species cultivated in gardens for centuries, Anemone coronaria varieties are highly prized for their vibrant colours, long flowering period and excellent garden performance. ‘Duet’ stands out for its unusual colouring and elegant two-tone blooms.

Perfect for borders, patio pots, cutting gardens and containers, the flowers are also highly attractive to bees and pollinators. Planted in groups, they create a dazzling display packed with colour and movement.

Easy to grow and wonderfully rewarding, ‘Duet’ brings freshness, elegance and vibrant spring beauty to the garden.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Anemone coronaria corms in autumn or spring. Autumn planting will generally provide earlier flowers, while spring planting gives blooms slightly later in the season.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny or lightly shaded position with well-drained soil. Anemones are ideal for borders, containers, cutting gardens and cottage garden planting.

How to Plant:

  • Preparation: Soak corms in lukewarm water for 3–4 hours before planting to help encourage faster growth.
  • Depth: Plant corms about 5 cm (2 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space corms approximately 8–10 cm (3–4 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve soil with compost. In heavy soils, add grit or sharp sand to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water after planting and keep the soil lightly moist during active growth, avoiding waterlogged conditions.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Deadhead faded blooms regularly to prolong flowering.
  • Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering.
  • In colder or wetter areas, apply a winter mulch for extra protection.

Top Tip:
Plant in generous drifts for a striking display – the bicolour blooms look especially beautiful mixed with pastel tulips and spring-flowering bulbs.
