Elegant, graceful and one of the world's most beloved Amaryllis varieties, Hippeastrum 'Apple Blossom' produces magnificent trumpet-shaped flowers in delicate shades of soft blush pink and creamy white, beautifully accented by fresh green throats.

Introduced over 70 years ago, 'Apple Blossom' has become a timeless classic, admired for its romantic colouring, impressive flower size and exceptional reliability. The enormous blooms, often reaching 20cm (8 inches) across, are carried on strong, upright stems above glossy green foliage, bringing a touch of elegance to any home during the winter months.

Each premium bulb typically produces two sturdy flower stems, each bearing three to five spectacular blooms, providing a succession of flowers over several weeks. The soft pastel shades complement both traditional and contemporary interiors, making 'Apple Blossom' a favourite for festive decorating, spring displays and thoughtful gifts.

Easy to grow and remarkably rewarding, this classic Hippeastrum requires very little care to produce a truly spectacular floral display, making it perfect for both experienced gardeners and first-time growers alike.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Hippeastrum bulbs indoors from October through to February for beautiful flowers during winter and early spring. Most bulbs will bloom around 6–10 weeks after planting.

Where to Plant:
Choose a bright, warm location, such as a sunny windowsill or conservatory, where temperatures remain between 18–22°C. Hippeastrums should always be grown indoors and protected from frost.

How to Plant:

  • Pot Size: Choose a pot only slightly larger than the bulb, leaving approximately 2–3 cm around the sides.
  • Depth: Plant with the top third of the bulb above the compost surface.
  • Compost: Use a high-quality, free-draining compost and ensure the pot has drainage holes.

Watering:
Water lightly after planting, then wait until new shoots appear before watering again. Once growth begins, water regularly to keep the compost lightly moist, avoiding waterlogged conditions.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Rotate the pot every few days to keep flower stems growing straight.
  • Feed weekly with a balanced liquid fertiliser once the leaves appear.
  • Remove faded flowers but allow the foliage to continue growing naturally, helping the bulb store energy for next year's display.
  • Reduce watering in late summer and allow the bulb to rest for 8–10 weeks before restarting the growing cycle.

Top Tip:
'Apple Blossom' looks particularly elegant planted in a simple white or ceramic pot, allowing its beautiful blush-pink blooms to take centre stage.
