Elegant, refined and full of subtle charm, Narcissus 'Avalon' is one of the finest reverse bicolour daffodils, admired for its graceful colour transformation throughout the flowering season. Opening in warm shades of soft yellow before maturing to creamy white, this award-winning variety brings lasting interest and sophistication to the spring garden.
Introduced by the renowned Dutch breeder J.W.A. Lefeber, 'Avalon' has earned widespread acclaim for its beautifully proportioned flowers and exceptional garden performance. Each bloom opens with broad, rounded petals in a soft lemon-yellow that gradually deepen to a warm golden hue. At the centre sits a large, elegantly ruffled trumpet which undergoes a remarkable transformation, fading from rich yellow to a delicate creamy-white as the flower matures. This ever-changing display ensures every planting remains fresh and captivating for weeks.
Flowering from March into April, 'Avalon' is lightly fragrant and held on strong, weather-resistant stems reaching around 35–40cm tall. It performs beautifully in borders, containers and naturalised drifts, while its long-lasting blooms make superb cut flowers for spring bouquets.
Recipient of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, 'Avalon' pairs beautifully with blue Muscari, Camassias, tulips and forget-me-nots, creating elegant spring combinations full of contrast and harmony.
A graceful, award-winning daffodil whose changing colours and classic beauty have made it a favourite with gardeners for generations.
