Elegant, unusual and wonderfully fragrant, Narcissus 'Lemon Beauty' is a superb Split-Corona Daffodil (RHS Division 11b), often known as an Orchid-flowering or Butterfly Daffodil. Its beautifully open blooms resemble delicate butterflies resting amongst the spring foliage, bringing a graceful elegance to borders and containers.

Each flower features pristine ivory-white petals surrounding a spectacular bright lemon-yellow split corona. Unlike traditional daffodils, the trumpet is divided for more than half its length, opening out flat against the petals to create a striking star-shaped centre. The result is a flower with remarkable depth, texture and sophistication that continues to attract attention throughout its flowering season.

Blooming in mid to late spring, 'Lemon Beauty' produces wonderfully fragrant flowers on sturdy stems, making it an excellent choice for borders, containers and cutting gardens. Its distinctive form pairs beautifully with tulips, muscari and late-flowering narcissus, while the lightly scented blooms make superb additions to spring bouquets.

Like all daffodils, 'Lemon Beauty' is exceptionally hardy, easy to grow and returns faithfully each year, gradually increasing into generous clumps with minimal maintenance.

A graceful and distinctive butterfly daffodil whose elegant flowers bring fragrance, texture and refined beauty to the spring garden.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Narcissus bulbs in autumn, ideally between September and November, before the ground freezes and while the soil remains workable.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. Butterfly daffodils are ideal for borders, containers, cottage gardens and naturalising beneath deciduous trees.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs about 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve poor soils with compost or well-rotted organic matter. In heavy clay soils, add grit to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. Once established, water only during prolonged dry spells in spring.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Allow foliage to die back naturally for at least six weeks after flowering.
  • Remove spent flower heads to prevent seed production.
  • Feed with a balanced fertiliser after flowering to encourage strong bulbs for the following year.

Top Tip:
Plant alongside blue Muscari or violet Tulips to emphasise the bright lemon-yellow butterfly centre and create a striking spring display.
