Bold, elegant and richly coloured, Tulipa 'Renown' is a magnificent Single Late Tulip celebrated for its large, perfectly formed blooms in glowing shades of deep rose-pink with warm cerise undertones. Flowering towards the end of the tulip season, its vibrant colour provides a spectacular finale to the spring garden.

Introduced for its outstanding garden performance and strong stems, 'Renown' produces classic goblet-shaped flowers that hold their shape beautifully in all but the strongest winds. The satiny petals catch the sunlight, giving the blooms a luminous quality that makes them stand out in borders and containers alike.

Flowering throughout May, this elegant variety reaches around 60–70cm tall, making it ideal for adding height and colour to mixed borders. It combines beautifully with deep purple tulips such as 'Queen of Night', creamy whites like 'City of Vancouver', or ornamental Alliums for a sophisticated late spring display.

Its long, sturdy stems also make 'Renown' an outstanding cut flower, lasting exceptionally well in the vase and bringing weeks of colour indoors.

A dependable and eye-catching tulip, 'Renown' is perfect for gardeners looking for vibrant late-season colour and excellent garden performance.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Tulip bulbs in autumn, ideally from October to December, once the soil has cooled. Planting later in autumn helps reduce the risk of tulip diseases and encourages healthy spring flowering.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. 'Renown' is ideal for borders, large patio containers, cutting gardens and formal planting schemes.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 15 cm (6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve heavy soils with compost and, if necessary, add horticultural grit to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. Once established, tulips generally only require watering during prolonged dry spells in spring.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Remove faded flowers once blooming has finished.
  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally for at least six weeks after flowering so the bulbs can store energy for the following year.
  • Feed with a balanced fertiliser in early spring for healthy growth and abundant blooms.

Top Tip:
Plant 'Renown' with dark tulips such as 'Queen of Night' or ornamental Alliums for a striking late spring display. Its tall stems and long-lasting flowers are also superb for cutting.
