Narcissus Mount Hood

A true classic and one of the world's most admired white daffodils, Narcissus 'Mount Hood' is an outstanding Trumpet Daffodil (RHS Division 1). Introduced in 1937, this award-winning heirloom variety has remained a firm favourite with gardeners for generations thanks to its elegant blooms, excellent garden performance and timeless beauty.

Each magnificent flower opens with broad ivory-white petals surrounding a long soft primrose-yellow trumpet. As the bloom matures, the trumpet gradually fades to a beautiful pure white, creating an exquisite all-white flower that seems to glow in the spring sunshine. This graceful colour transformation has made 'Mount Hood' one of the finest white daffodils ever introduced.

Flowering in mid-spring, the large, weather-resistant blooms are carried on strong stems, making them ideal for borders, containers, woodland gardens and naturalising in grass. The flowers are lightly fragrant and exceptionally long-lasting, both in the garden and as cut flowers.

Recipient of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, 'Mount Hood' is vigorous, easy to grow and reliably returns each year, gradually forming impressive clumps that become even more spectacular with age.

Planting Instructions

Planting time: Autumn (September–November) Position: Full sun or partial shade Soil: Fertile, well-drained soil. Improve with compost before planting and add grit if your soil is heavy clay to improve drainage and prevent bulbs sitting in wet winter conditions. Depth: Plant bulbs 10–15 cm deep with the pointed end facing upwards. Spacing: 10–15 cm apart. Plant in groups of at least 10 bulbs to create beautiful drifts in borders, containers or naturalised grass. Watering: Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. During spring, only water during prolonged dry spells. Care: Allow the foliage to die back naturally for at least six weeks after flowering, as the leaves replenish the bulb for the following year. Remove faded flowers but leave all foliage until it has completely yellowed. Leave established clumps undisturbed to encourage natural multiplication.
