Graceful, elegant and full of refinement, Tulipa 'Burgundy Lace' is one of the finest Fringed Tulips, producing beautifully sculptured flowers in rich burgundy-purple, each petal delicately edged with intricate crystalline fringes.

The luxurious goblet-shaped blooms display velvety shades of deep wine-red and plum that become even richer as they mature. The finely serrated petal edges catch the light, creating a subtle frosted effect that adds texture and sophistication to every flower. This exquisite combination of colour and form makes 'Burgundy Lace' a standout variety in both traditional and contemporary planting schemes.

Flowering in late spring, the elegant blooms are carried on sturdy stems above fresh green foliage, providing excellent weather resistance and outstanding performance in borders, patio containers and cutting gardens. The long-lasting flowers are equally impressive indoors, making exceptional cut flowers for luxurious spring arrangements.

The deep, dramatic colouring pairs beautifully with soft pink, white or lilac tulips, as well as ornamental Alliums and silver foliage plants, creating elegant and harmonious combinations.

A sophisticated late-season tulip that brings richness, texture and timeless beauty to the spring garden.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Tulipa 'Burgundy Lace' bulbs in autumn, ideally between September and November, once the soil has cooled but before it freezes.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Fringed Tulips perform beautifully in borders, patio containers, formal bedding and cutting gardens.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 15 cm (6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve heavy soils with grit or sharp sand to improve drainage, and enrich the soil with compost or well-rotted organic matter before planting.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil around the bulbs. During spring, rainfall is usually sufficient, although containers may require watering during prolonged dry spells.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Remove faded flowers to prevent seed production.
  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally before removing it so the bulb can store energy for the following year.
  • Avoid excessive watering once the bulbs become dormant in summer.

Top Tip:
Plant with white tulips, soft pink tulips or silver foliage plants to emphasise the rich burgundy colouring and delicate frosted fringes for a truly elegant late spring display.
