Bright, cheerful and wonderfully fragrant, Narcissus 'Sun Disc' is a delightful Jonquilla daffodil that produces clusters of sunny golden-yellow flowers with perfectly rounded cups. Compact, floriferous and easy to grow, it brings warmth and charm to the late spring garden while filling the air with its sweet perfume.

Each slender stem carries 2–5 beautifully scented blooms, creating a generous display from every bulb. The broad, rich yellow petals surround a distinctive flattened, disc-shaped corona in a slightly deeper golden hue, giving the flowers their aptly chosen name. Their elegant form and vibrant colouring make 'Sun Disc' equally attractive in the garden or arranged in spring bouquets.

Flowering from April into May, 'Sun Disc' thrives in borders, rockeries, containers and naturalised drifts. Its narrow, grassy foliage complements the delicate blooms, while the flowers provide a valuable source of nectar for bees and other pollinating insects emerging later in the spring season.

Ideal for cottage gardens and sunny borders, this charming variety combines beautifully with Camassias, late tulips, Muscari and Alliums, extending the daffodil season with its abundance of fragrant blooms.

A graceful Jonquilla daffodil that rewards gardeners with vibrant colour, delightful fragrance and reliable performance year after year.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Narcissus bulbs in autumn, between September and November, while the soil remains warm enough for roots to establish before winter.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. 'Sun Disc' is perfect for borders, containers, gravel gardens, cottage gardens and naturalising beneath deciduous trees.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs about 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve heavy soils with compost and grit if necessary to ensure good drainage.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. Once established, bulbs require very little watering except during prolonged dry spells.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Deadhead faded flowers to prevent seed production.
  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally for at least six weeks after flowering.
  • Apply a balanced fertiliser after flowering to encourage healthy bulbs and reliable blooms the following spring.

Top Tip:
Plant in generous drifts near paths or seating areas where the sweet fragrance can be enjoyed. The long-lasting flowers also make excellent additions to spring bouquets.
