Graceful, elegant and wonderfully refined, Tulipa 'Mariette' is one of the finest Lily-flowered Tulips, producing tall, slender blooms in rich rose-pink with delicately pointed petals that gently curve outwards at the tips.

Introduced in the mid-20th century, this award-winning variety has remained a favourite for generations thanks to its elegant form and dependable garden performance. As the flowers mature, the silky petals open into graceful star-like blooms, creating movement and sophistication in late spring borders.

The vibrant rose-pink flowers are beautifully complemented by strong stems that withstand spring weather well, making 'Mariette' an outstanding choice for both the garden and the vase. Its elegant shape pairs beautifully with white, purple and deep plum tulips, adding height and a touch of refinement to mixed displays.

Perfect for borders, containers and cutting gardens, Tulipa 'Mariette' is equally at home in formal planting schemes or relaxed cottage gardens. Plant in generous groups for a truly spectacular display of colour and elegance.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Tulip bulbs in autumn, ideally from October to December, once the soil has cooled. This helps reduce the risk of tulip diseases and encourages strong spring flowering.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. Tulips are ideal for borders, patio containers, cutting gardens and formal displays.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 15 cm (6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve heavy soils with compost and, if necessary, add horticultural grit to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water well after planting to settle the soil. Once established, tulips generally only require watering during prolonged dry spells in spring.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Deadhead flowers once they fade to prevent seed production.
  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally for at least six weeks after flowering so the bulb can store energy for the following year.
  • Feed with a balanced fertiliser in early spring if growing as a perennial display.

Top Tip:
Plant Tulipa 'Mariette' alongside white tulips such as 'Maureen' or deep purple varieties for an elegant late spring display. Its tall stems also make it an exceptional cut flower.
