A captivating winter-flowering perennial, prized for its elegant blooms in rich shades of plum, burgundy, and soft rose. Flowering from late winter into early spring, it brings colour and life when little else stirs. A hybrid hellebore, it thrives in dappled shade and humus-rich, well-drained soil. Plant 45cm apart to allow clumps to mature gracefully. Reaching 40cm in height, it’s perfect for borders, underplanting shrubs, or woodland edges. Long valued in cottage gardens for its resilience and evergreen foliage, Winter Passion adds quiet sophistication and seasonal magic to the garden year after year.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:
Plant your Helleborus Winter Passion in early autumn or spring when the ground is workable. Avoid planting in frozen or waterlogged soil.

Where to Plant:
Choose a partially shaded spot — ideal under deciduous trees or at the edge of a woodland border. Hellebores thrive in well-drained, humus-rich soil and benefit from a sheltered location.

How to Plant:
Dig a hole deep enough to comfortably accommodate the roots. Position the crown (where the roots meet the stem) just at or slightly above soil level — do not bury it too deeply. Backfill with enriched soil and firm gently.

Depth & Spacing:
Set plants at soil level, spacing them about 40-45cm (16-18 inches) apart to allow room for mature growth and airflow.

Aftercare:
Keep the soil moist but not soggy during establishment. Mulch annually in autumn with leaf mould or compost to retain moisture and enrich the soil. Remove old leaves in late winter before new flowers emerge to reduce the risk of fungal diseases.

Top Tip:
Helleborus Winter Passion will establish slowly but reward patience with beautiful, long-lasting winter blooms year after year. Ideal for naturalising in shady borders.
