Anemone ‘De Caen’ is a classic spring favourite, producing vibrant, poppy-like flowers in a glorious mix of bold colours (often reds, blues, purples, pinks and whites) with a striking dark centre. They’re brilliant for brightening borders and pots, and they make fantastic cut flowers too—long-stemmed, colourful and cheerful in a vase. Plant the tubers in early spring and you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful late spring to early summer display, with the bonus that they’re great for pollinators when in flower.
When to Plant:
Plant in early spring as soon as the soil is workable. For best results, soak the tubers in lukewarm water for 2–4 hours before planting to help them sprout more quickly.
Where to Plant:
Choose a spot in full sun (or light shade) with well-drained soil. Anemone ‘De Caen’ is ideal for mixed borders, cutting gardens, containers and patio pots. They prefer soil that doesn’t stay wet in winter and appreciate a sheltered position.
How to Plant:
Watering:
Water after planting to settle the soil. Keep the soil lightly moist while shoots appear, then water during dry spells while the plants are growing and flowering.
Aftercare Tips:
