Arisaema concinnum is an exotic woodland beauty, grown for its dramatic, hooded “cobra-like” flower and handsome, architectural foliage. The striking spathe (hood) often shows rich colouring and subtle striping, with a curious, elegant spadix at the centre—making it a real collector’s plant and a total conversation starter in the shade garden. It’s perfect for adding something a little unusual to woodland borders, shady courtyards, or containers in a sheltered spot, where it can be admired up close.
Given the right conditions—cool roots, moisture in spring and summer, and good drainage in winter—Arisaema concinnum will return each year with increasing presence and character.
When to Plant:
Plant in spring while dormant or just as growth begins. You can also plant in early autumn in milder areas, provided the soil is not waterlogged.
Where to Plant:
Choose a sheltered position in partial shade to full shade with moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Arisaema concinnum is ideal for woodland gardens, shady borders, under shrubs and containers. Avoid very dry spots and heavy soils that stay wet in winter.
How to Plant:
Watering:
Water well after planting and keep the soil evenly moist during the growing season. Reduce watering once the foliage dies back. In pots, do not allow compost to dry out completely in spring and early summer.
