Elegant and refined, Iris sibirica ‘Sparkling Rose’ is a graceful perennial that brings a soft wash of colour to the late spring and early summer garden. Its beautifully formed blooms display delicate rose-pink petals with subtle veining and golden highlights, creating a light, airy effect as they rise above slender clumps of fresh green foliage.

Unlike the larger bearded irises, Siberian irises offer a more natural, flowing presence in the garden. Their narrow, upright leaves form neat architectural clumps that remain attractive long after flowering, making them excellent structural plants for borders.

Perfect for mixed herbaceous borders, naturalistic planting schemes, and waterside gardens, Iris sibirica thrives in moisture-retentive soil but is adaptable to most garden conditions provided it does not dry out completely. Once established, plants gradually form larger clumps, producing increasing numbers of elegant blooms each year.

Loved by pollinators and valued for its reliability, ‘Sparkling Rose’ adds a touch of softness and movement to the garden, pairing beautifully with ornamental grasses, astrantia, geraniums and other cottage garden favourites.

Supplied as clumps

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Iris sibirica in spring or autumn when the soil is workable. Avoid planting during periods of hard frost or when the ground is waterlogged.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with moist but well-drained soil. Siberian irises are excellent for herbaceous borders, naturalistic planting and waterside gardens.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant with the crown just below the soil surface.
  • Spacing: Space plants about 40–50 cm (16–20 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve soil with garden compost or well-rotted organic matter before planting to retain moisture.

Watering:
Water well after planting and keep the soil consistently moist while plants establish. Siberian irises prefer soil that does not dry out completely, particularly during the growing season.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Remove spent flower stems after blooming.
  • Cut back foliage in late autumn once it begins to die back.
  • Clumps can be divided every 3–4 years in early spring or autumn to maintain vigour.

Top Tip:
Iris sibirica looks particularly effective planted in drifts or small groups, where the elegant flowers can sway naturally among other border plants.
